Procedure For Requesting Records

For traffic crash reports, please visit the Wisconsin Department of Transportation website at: View State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation

For other reports and records, please email your request to Email City of West Allis.

After records are compiled, all records are reviewed by a supervisor or designee prior to release. Generally, requests are fulfilled within 10 business days. However, fulfilling requests may be delayed for a number of reasons, such as the requested records are associated with an open investigation or a large number of records were requested. Staff will attempt to notify you when the records are ready to be picked up.

General fees are as follows:

If your request for records is partially or completely denied, Wis. Stat. § 19.35(4)(b) requires that you be informed this determination is subject to review under Wis. Stat. § 19.37(1). You may bring an action for mandamus asking for a court to order release of the records or request the District Attorney or Attorney General to bring an action for mandamus asking a court to order a release of the records. The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office is located at 949 North 9th Street, Milwaukee, WI, 53233. The Milwaukee County Children’s Court Center is located at 10201 West Watertown Plank Road, Wauwatosa, WI, 53226. The State Attorney General’s office is located at Wisconsin Department of Justice, 114 East State Capitol, P.O. Box 7857, Madison, WI 53707-7857.

Any completed requests that have not been paid for or picked up within 21 days will be considered inactive and you will have to make a new request.
